Clarke Auction’s Superbowl Sunday sale was a big success with a large in-house turnout and record number of internet bidders. The sale wrapped up by 4:30pm with plenty of time for auction-goers to get home for kick-off.

 

 

Meissen. Two Large & Impressive Porcelain Ewers.

The top lot of the sale was this “as is” pair of Meissen ewers that sold for $26,400 to a bidder on the phone despite several areas of damage.

 

Tiffany & Co. 14kt Yellow Gold Link Bracelet.

A heavy and attractive Tiffany & Co. bracelet, consigned for auction during a Clarke’s “Walk-In Wednesday,” exceeded the $4,000-$5,000 presale estimate, bringing $7,200 at auction.

 

Antique Asian Hardstone Lot.

Estimated to sell between $400-$600, this lot of Asian hardstone carvings and snuff bottles actually realized $7,200  on Sunday afternoon, confirming that the Chinese market is still strong.

 

Rare Pair of Minton Majolica Garden Seats.

This pair of Minton garden seats, likely designed by A.W. Pugin, found in a Manhattan estate, sold for $14,400 to an in-house bidder, more than 4 times the anticipated estimate.

 

 

Pair of Midcentury Rosewood Cabinets.

Selling for $3,600 on Superbowl Sunday, this unidentified but sleek pair of mid century cabinets brought more than expected.

 

JENKINS, Paul. Abstract Acrylic on Canvas "Phenomena Arabic Call."

A wonderful 1967-68 acrylic on canvas by renowned abstract expressionist Paul Jenkins brought $15,600, falling right within Clarke’s $12,000-$18,000 presale estimate.

Lino Tagliapietra Filigrama / Battuto Art Glass

This wonderfully crafted Lino Tagliapietra vase sold to a satisfied in-house collector for $4,800, exceeding the $2,000-$3,000 estimate.

 

Valentine Prax Oil on Canvas of Wood Gatherers.

Estimated to bring between $3,000-$5,000, an evocative oil by 20th century French female artist, Valentine Prax, sold to a phone bidder in California for $9,600.

 

 

Jacob Epstein Bronze Bust "Smiling Head."

This bronze bust of the serene Ellen Jansen by Sir Jacob Epstein sold to a bidder in London for $9,000.

 

Tiffany Studios Lamp Base with Unsigned Favrile Shade

Although the favrile shade was unmarked, this Tiffany Studios lamp base sold to a bidder overseas for $10,200, more than 3 times the high-end estimate.
